The Interfaith Blessing of the World March

An interfaith gathering of religious leaders gathered beside New York Harbor, facing the Statue of Liberty, at 8 am Oct. 2nd morning, offering prayers of support and protection for the international marchers for The World March for Peace and Nonviolence. In all, ten short prayers were offered, some sung, others spoken, with representatives of numerous religious and spiritual traditions: Shinto, Sikh, Methodist, Christian Science, Unitarian Universalist, Mennonite, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist and Community of Silos Message. Chris Wells spoke as spokesperson of the March, as well as a member of September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows who had lost her brother on United 93. The event was opened and closed with a ceremonial flute.
